It's Barack, genuis. Things like that don't happen over night. Give it time. And no, we are not becoming socalist. Socalism treats the public like a whole, capitalism treats us like indiviuals. Socalism taxes the rich more heavily and takes the load off the poor and middle class. Socialism also has more government involved trade, but is not completely dictating everything. Think a mix of Communism and Capitalism all at the same time. Not bad, in my opinion.

the health care plan is basically communism, were already into socialism with the taking over of companies like GM/chrysler/banks and what not. now were stepping into Communism with the health plan. and who benefits, it benefits nobody, it hurts the nation as a whole and will lead to things nobody has thought possible as america declines into the mirror image of Zimbabwe.

Several reasons. One is it can't get out of or passed the powerful Senate Finance committee with public option. Realistically, the Finance committee has 3 Democrats, 3 Republicans, and all 3 Dems are moderates. 2 of the Republicans are conservative. The committee is heavily financed and targeted by the largest lobby industries on K Street. Health care, pharmaceuticals, and insurance. Right now there is big lobby money being spent.

On the House side, there is a "bluedog" coalition http://www.house.gov/melancon/BlueDogs/. There are also many new Democrats representing fiscally conservative districts. During "cap and trade", those that supported cap and trade, were taken to the woodshed back home by their constituents. Then, the Senate failed to pass it, left them hanging, and they felt betrayed.

Now, those conservative Democrats are scared if they pass government run health care, and the Senate abandons them again, they can forget about re-election in 2010.

With trillions of dollars at stake to the for profit health insurers owned by the Pharmaceutical companies, much dis-information has been spread. I mean, nearly every business in the US can go to a government agency for work comp coverage if they choose to do so, but they don't want individuals to be able to purchase health insurance from the same place our Congressmen do ? Go figure ?

People are scared of progress and change. Many said that "if God had wanted man to fly, he would have given him wings." LOL

The current system is on the road to collapse. We need to change it. If we don't get it right, then we change it again or tweak it until it works.

People are led by what they see on TV, and for profit companies have shown them an awful lot.

Socialism is having a military. 50% of our tax income is spent either on the military or interest on military debt.

Socialism is public education. Equal schools regardless of ability to pay ? Communist for sure.

Socialism is having to pay taxes for a fire department. Put out your own damn fire. I own a fire extinguisher, buy your own.

Socialism is Cops. Protect your own.

Socialism is Post office, DMV, Roads, bridges, borders, etc.

Any government control that benefits the public is Socialism !
Look how far we've fallen !

Obama, Pelosi, and Reid are having a hard time getting their national health care accepted for many reasons. Socialism is taking money from those who earn it and giving it to those who do not, through taxes, fines and penalties. Thatcher made a very insightful observation concerning socialism. "Sooner or later, you run out of other people's money to spend." Many Americans don't want to have to pay for the health care of illegal aliens, welfare brood mares, and those just plain lazy. This is the group most likely to benefit. Americans don't want the government involved in their health care. What program does the government run nearly as well as private enterprise?

Barack is having a hard time passing this bill because no one knows what exactly is in it.

How can anyone accept a 1.6 trillion dollar bill that most Americans simply do not understand. As a Republican, I’m not opposed to healthcare reform, as long as the American people as a whole have time to digest and interpret it. There are many unanswered questions such as: Is it worth leaving our grandchildren in debt? Can it wait until the recession is over? What if it fails? What if nothing really happens? What if we run out of money to fund it twenty, thirty years down the line and our children and grandchildren have their taxes raised considerably. As a President proposing a bill that will undoubtedly effect everyone in America, a clear and concise explanation should be offered. With Liberals and Conservatives translating this bill many different ways, a complete, accurate description is not going to be availabe to the American People. Town Hall meetings are not getting the job done as certain congressmen are falsifying or mistranslating a bill that some have admittedly not even read. What America needs is to take a deep breath and be able to assess this unclear bill, the unclear costs, and the unclear funding without having the president essentially saying he‘s going to pass this bill with our without cooperation from the American people. I think this, not the healthcare reform itself, is what has made so many people so upset.

People are pissed about this. They're pissed about being asked to (openly) pay for their own health care and others, they're pissed about the government possibly taking over their health care if insurance companies have to start cutting back or going out of business, and they're pissed about politicians not giving a crap about what they think.

They're pissed enough to make Congress fear for their jobs, which is the only way to make them do what Americans want.
